Good morning. It is true that driving an electric vehicle allows you to save a lot of energy, but there are limits to exaggeration. Either your salesperson is a shameless liar, or he really sucks at math.

First of all, it is important to know that the Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a battery with a maximum capacity of 131 kWh. Assuming that we keep the battery between 10 and 80% at all times, we are talking regarding 91.7 kilowatt hours. According to Hydro-Québec, the price per kilowatt hour at the domestic rate is $0.11543. A “full” therefore costs $10.58 taxes included. If we do the full recharge, we are talking regarding $15.12 taxes included. For comparison, the fuel tank of a 3.5-litre F-150 Platinum V6 EcoBoost gasoline engine can accommodate 136 liters of fuel; at $1.75 per litre, a fill-up would cost $238 taxes included.
According to Transport Canada, the average consumption of the Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum is 31.5 kilowatt hours/100 kilometers. The 131 kilowatt-hour battery therefore provides a range of 416 kilometres. If we compare this with the petrol F150, the average consumption is 12.1 litres/100 kilometres; the technical autonomy is therefore 1,124 kilometers per tank.

We are able to project the 40,000 kilometers you travel annually. In the case of a gasoline version, we take the price of a full tank ($238) divided by the number of kilometers (1,124). So it costs $0.2117 per kilometer, or $8,468.75 per year in gasoline. With the Lightning, we take the price of a full charge at home ($15.12) divided by the range of 416 kilometres. So it costs $0.036 per kilometer to use an F-150 Lightning, or $1,453 for 40,000 kilometres. So there is a difference of $7,015.75 over the same distance. If you keep your vehicle for 10 years, it’s simple, you’ll save nothing less than $70,157.
It’s obvious that your salesperson was totally wrong with his estimate of $200. However, it is very obvious that there is a real financial saving in terms of energy with the F-150 Lightning compared to a traditional petrol version.
