Manchester United player Anthony has been expelled from Brazil, following he was accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend.

The CBF said the 23-year-old was removed from the national team following “facts became public” and “need to be investigated”.

The Brazilian News Agency published allegations of assault made by Anthony’s ex-partner on Monday.

Police in Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester, England, are investigating the allegations, which the player denies.

“I can calmly say that the accusations are false and that the evidence already presented and other evidence that will be presented proves that I am innocent of the accusations once morest me,” Anthony said on social media.

He added, “I am confident that the ongoing police investigations will reveal the truth regarding my innocence.”>

Among the accusations is that Anthony attacked his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, “butting his head” on her while they were in a hotel room in Manchester on January 15, which resulted in her suffering a head wound that required treatment from a doctor.

Gabriella also claims she was punched in the chest, causing damage to her silicone breast implant, which required corrective surgery.

In his statement on Monday, Anthony added that his relationship with his ex-partner was “troubled”, but insisted he “never committed any physical abuse”.

The player also issued a statement in June, saying his ex-girlfriend had falsely accused him of domestic violence.

Greater Manchester Police said they were “aware of the allegations made and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report”.

Police added: “We will not comment further at this time.”

Manchester United said it had no comment at this time, in response to an inquiry from BBC Sport.

The allegations come following the influential Premier League club announced last month that striker Mason Greenwood would leave the team by mutual agreement following a six-month internal investigation.

Charges once morest Greenwood, including rape and assault, were dropped in February.

The player, 21, joined Spanish club Getafe on loan last week.

Anthony was replaced in the Brazil squad by Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus for the next two World Cup qualifiers, once morest Bolivia and Peru.
