The association, in this note, indicates that “the Moroccan consumer supports the wave of successive increases in the prices of all food, industrial and service products”, adding that this situation exhausts his purchasing power.
The document reveals that “the fuel market in Morocco is the main reason for all the increases. The national market has recently experienced five consecutive increases during the month of August 2023, despite the stability of prices at the international level, knowing that oil purchases do not take place on a daily basis”.
“The consequences of the unjustified increase in fuel prices even affected the services of the Moroccan Post Office, which increased the price of sending an ordinary letter by around 9.33%, with an increase of two dirhams for priority mail”, specifies the same source.
In this sense, the consumer protection association stresses that: “This situation is unhealthy from an economic point of view”, calling for the need to respect the mechanisms of the free market and to guarantee the principle of transparency and the right to consumer information.
For their part, the investigation services of the Competition Council concluded that there were arguments and evidence indicating that the companies involved in the proceedings had committed acts contrary to the rules of competition on the aforementioned markets, in flagrant violation of the requirements of Article 6 of Law No. 104.12, as supplemented and amended.
According to the same press release, this notification comes following the changes introduced in the legal framework governing competition in Morocco. These aim to add the necessary precision to the procedures in force before the Council, as well as to strengthen the legal guarantees granted to the parties concerned by these procedures.
The notification of complaints to the parties concerned, adds the source, will enable them to initiate the adversarial procedure provided for in Article 29 of the aforementioned Law No. 104.12 as supplemented and amended. Said law guarantees to these parties the exercise of all the rights of defense contained in the same aforementioned law as amended and supplemented.
