Around 160 cycling enthusiasts took part in the three-day Tour of Hope, supported by Skoda, for a good cause. The field of riders included well-known names such as former world boxing champion Henry Maske, biathletes Magdalena Neuner and Uschi Disl, TV chef Johann Lafer and Guido Kratschmer, former world record holder and Olympic silver medalist in the decathlon. Bobsledder Laura Nolte and soccer coach Felix Magath also completed at least one day’s tour for the good cause. Petra Behle, Olympic champion and nine-time world champion in biathlon, once more had the patronage. Skoda supported the journey with six organization and escort vehicles.

The destination was the University Hospital in Würzburg. Part of the donations goes to the children’s hospital there. There, experts research new immunological therapy approaches and treat children and adolescents of all ages with acute and chronic diseases, including around 100 young patients with cancer every year.

Along the more than 270-kilometer route, the cyclists made frequent stops at supporters of the charitable excursion. On Saturday, the peloton stopped at the Skoda Autohaus Brass in Großheubach. Libor Myska, Finance Director at Skoda Germany and a keen cyclist himself, handed over a donation check for EUR 10,000 to patron Petra Behle on behalf of the employees of the car importer in Germany for the Tour of Hope. The car dealership increased the donation by 1000 euros.

Over the past 40 years, the charity drive, which began as the Tour Peiper, has raised over 46 million euros for cancer research and treatment. (awm)
