The exception was a few educational institutions in the new regions of Russia.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko, at an operational meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, spoke regarding the results of the admission campaign to universities and the start of a new academic year in the country.

– The school year has begun, this year we have 1,236,022 freshmen. Almost all universities started the academic year in a traditional, full-time format, with the exception of a number of universities in new regions, Dmitry Chernyshenko noted.

According to the vice-premier, the admission campaign was held in a regular mode. He added that 375,000 people have applied to universities remotely, through the super service “Enter a university online.”

In total, 626,278 state-funded places have been established in universities this year, of which 37,089 are in new regions. Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the number of budget places has increased compared to last year.

“We are still recruiting for master’s, postgraduate and residency programs,” the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation added.

On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, participants in the NWO and their children are enrolled for training within a separate quota – regarding 8.5 thousand people. There are such guys in almost all regions of the country. Many of them entered the leading universities of the Russian Federation. It is important to note that a number of universities have decided to admit such applicants in excess of the established quota at their own expense.

The most popular areas for applicants this year were: computer science and computer technology, pedagogy and economics, as well as law and management.

Among the most popular universities in the country are RANEPA, Kazan Federal University, Ural Federal University, Higher School of Economics and Financial University.

Dmitry Chernyshenko recalled that a new national system of higher education is being implemented on behalf of the head of state.

– On September 1 this year, a pilot project began, in which six universities participate. It provides for the creation of new levels of higher education: basic – with a period of study from 4 to 6 years, specialized – from 1 to 3 years and postgraduate studies. Specialized higher education will include a master’s degree, residency and assistantship-internship. The terms of training will be set depending on the direction of training or on a specific qualification, sector of the economy or social sphere. Such a training system will be applied in 111 specialties, he said. – A new layout of the federal state educational standard of higher education for an enlarged group of specialties and areas of training has also been developed. It will allow building individual educational trajectories for students, as well as provide the opportunity to obtain several qualifications.
