Sometimes, when you’ve just made yourself comfortable in front of the TV, you get cravings – and you grab chips, chocolate or gummy bears. But if you pay attention to your diet and prefer to snack on something healthy, you should rely on a certain type of yoghurt.
Despite its good image, not all yoghurt is healthy. For example, a lot of sugar is added to many fruit variants. Greek yoghurt without sugar is particularly suitable as a late-evening snack – because it has several advantages.
Greek yogurt is packed with good qualities
On the one hand, the sugar-free yoghurt is low in calories, but very rich in proteins. That way you don’t lose as much muscle while you sleep. The particularly thick, creamy texture and high protein content of this special type of yoghurt also keeps you full for longer. The blood sugar level is lowered, the risk of another ravenous appetite attack is averted.
The probiotic substances in the yoghurt also promote digestion and ensure a healthy intestinal flora. If the body has too much to do with digestion at night, you sleep less well. But not only the improved gastrointestinal activity speaks for the Greek yoghurt in the evening.
The milk product contains the amino acid tryptophan, a precursor of the messenger substance serotonin, the so-called happiness hormone. The body also needs tryptophan to produce the hormone melatonin, which regulates the human sleep-wake cycle. Greek yogurt can even contribute to a more restful sleep.
