CINCINNATI (AP) — Uruguay’s Facundo Torres scored late in the game and Peru’s goalkeeper Pedro Gallese held on to a last-gasp lead as Orlando City upset Cincinnati 1-0 on Saturday.
Torres scored for the 11th time this season, receiving a pass from Argentina’s Ramiro Enrique in the 44th minute. Gallese made four saves to keep the zero.
Cincinnati had shut out Orlando City in their previous two meetings. Through their first 13 home games, Cincinnati had tied the mark set by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2002, with 37 of a possible 39 points.
San José also lost its 14th duel.
Despite the loss, Cincinnati remained the leader of the Eastern Conference, with 57 points.
Orlando has 25 points on the road, the most in the league this season. He has suffered only three defeats on someone else’s court. Total 47 points and is third in the East.
Cincinnati resumes activity on September 16, when it travels to Philadelphia to face the Union. Orlando returns home to face the Columbus Crew later that day.
Elsewhere, Christian Benteke scored two goals and added an assist as DC United thrashed the Chicago Fire 4-0, moving them from ninth place, the last place in the play-offs.
With three goals from Colombian Cucho Hernández, the Crew defeated Montreal 4-2.
Also Colombians Brayan Vera and Cristian Arango scored as Real Salt Lake beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0, ending a four-game losing streak.
It was a good night for Colombians. Dairon Asprilla scored in the equalizer for the Portland Timbers, who erased a two-goal deficit and tied 2-2 once morest the Seattle Sounders.
Additionally, New York City FC drew 1-1 with the Vancouver Whitecaps, as did Nashville with Charlotte and Minnesota United with the San Jose Earthquakes; Austin drew 2-2 with the New England Revolution, and FC Dallas tied Atlanta United by the same scoreline.
The Houston Dynamo and the Los Angeles Galaxy drew 0-0.
This Sunday, Philadelphia takes on the New York Red Bulls, while Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will clash with Los Angeles FC.
