A minor and above all very young (2011) nation in world basketball, the South Sudanese have achieved a competition beyond their expectations. By finishing as the best nation on the African continent, South Sudan won its place at the expense of Egypt which, despite a good comeback, finally lost to New Zealand (88-86).
In the group stage, Wenyen Gabriel and his friends had even almost snatched their ticket for… the second round but had notably failed in overtime once morest Puerto Rico in the first match. They went on to defeat China, but lost to Serbia. The Philippines and thus Angola today were finally the two adversaries who allowed South Sudan to afford the Games.
