At the end of the milking, the sleeves are automatically removed from the teats. The robot then proceeds to disinfect the udders. The cow is leaving, another is already arriving in the box.
The advantage? “Flexibility at work”
“The cows are milked on average between 2.7 and three times a day? confides Guillaume Meens. “The advantage is flexibility in the work. The cow, whether we are there or not, she is milked 24 hours a day, so at the family level, that has big advantages. The robot, this n It’s no less work than the milking parlor, but it’s work that can be spread over the whole day.”
The operator took the robot option in 2020, tired by the two milkings of three to four hours a day. An investment of some €180,000 partly amortized by an increase in milk production. “A cow is going to be milked three times, three good quality milkings, so it makes sense that production will also increase, by 5 to 10% I would say.”
Calmer cows
The robotization of milking, now regular and à la carte, also makes the herd of cows much calmer in the barn.
