The bishopric of Namur finalized the procedure for buying back its buildings in the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg on Friday, the two entities announced.
The sale concerns both the buildings of the bishopric, located on Place du Chapitre, right next to the Saint-Aubain cathedral, and the park which is connected to it. Its amount is 930,000 euros. At the same time, the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg will continue to allocate to the bishopric an annual amount of 37,500 euros, which will be indexed. This sum corresponds to an obligation set by imperial decree and by current legislation to house Bishop Pierre Warin and his administration, while assuming the maintenance and repairs related to the buildings.
“This double agreement puts an end to three years of difficult negotiations”, indicated the bishopric of Namur, which has occupied the place for more than 200 years. “We will thus be able to begin important work and bear all the costs inherent in its status. This, while counting on the granting of subsidies linked to a listed heritage. »
