Danièle Sauvageau spoke to the media for the first time as general manager of the Montreal team of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF).
The new leader did not go through four paths when she was asked regarding the position of coach for her team.
“We already have our coach,” she said.
Regarding the announcement of the person who will sit behind the bench, Sauvageau sticks to league protocol.
“I have a verbal agreement with a coach, the league has a process to follow. […] Over the next few days, the coaches and then the players will be announced. “says Sauvageau.
The latter even expressed the qualities sought for a coach, so that he or she successfully leads a new team in a new league.
“A coach who is able to have a certain chemistry, experience and knowledge of the players, that’s the type of person I’m looking for. »
As for the name of the team, it still hasn’t been found, but The Canadiansa team that played in the CWHL between 2007 and 2019, was mentioned by many supporters.
“The name of the team has not been decided yet. There are many people who have already started calling us The Canadians but we will see, we must remain open to the possibilities. “, explains Sauvageau.
The former head coach of the Canadian national women’s hockey team also spoke regarding the importance of identity within the franchise.
“It’s essential to have a local player as the face of this professional team and to build a franchise that represents an identity so that people can identify with it, it’s crucial. “, she stated.
“Montreal is a hockey city, I think the enthusiasm is there among the fans, I can feel it. People want a competitive team and the plan is to build what they deserve. “, she adds.
Although she knows that she and the people she will be working with will have a lot on their plate, she can’t help but be excited regarding this big new project.
“I mightn’t wait for the cities to be announced, I mightn’t wait for the general managers to be announced, there will be a series of announcements once more. But I’m especially looking forward to the first game. “, she says.
Danielle Sauvageau is impatient to see “the official drop the puck in the middle of the ice”.
“It’s one thing to have the professional environment for the players to train on a daily basis, but the players have to play.”
We will therefore have to wait for the various league announcements to learn more regarding the Montreal team and the complete operation of the LPHF.
