Zurich: Neeraj Chopra said that it will be a hard effort to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics next year and following that at the 2025 World Championships. The reaction was following winning the silver medal in the Diamond League. Neeraj was the third star in the world to top both the Olympics and the World Championships in javelin throw.

Days following finishing unopposed at the World Championships, Zürich was full of good performances. Chopra, who has become a shadow of his performance on the world stage, became the second in the game where Jakub Wadlich of the Czech Republic, who had settled for bronze in Budapest, won the gold. After throwing only 80.79 meters in the first air, the star who was in the fifth place, following fouling twice, climbed to the second place with 85.22 meters in the fourth air. In the last attempt, he came close to Wadlich’s gold distance of 85.86m but narrowly fell short at 85.71m. Germany’s Weber won the bronze with a throw of 85.04 meters.

“Very happy. Everyone was tired as the world championships were just around the corner. There was a hundred percent effort. Here, however, the first priority was to maintain health. The next focus is on Eugene and following that on the Asian Games,” Neeraj said following the match.

Neeraj also qualified for the Diamond League to be held on September 17 with 23 points in three matches. Last year, the Diamond League trophy was for the star. Earlier on May 5, he was noted for his success in the Diamond League meetings held in Doha and in Lausanne.

Meanwhile, Sreesankar, the Commonwealth silver medalist in the long jump, got off to a good start with a jump of 7.99m in his first jump but failed to clear that distance in his next four attempts. Later jumps were 7.96m, foul, 7.96m and 7.93m. Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou won gold with a jump of 8.20m, while Jamaica’s Tajay Clark was second with 8.07m. Jarry Lawson of the US won bronze with a jump of 8.05m.
