All employees of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent received a letter on August 22 to remind them that it is forbidden to eat food intended for patients, a list that a union finds infantilizing.
The letter, of which TVA Nouvelles obtained a copy, is very precise. She mentions several foods, including coffee, individually wrapped buns that are banned from consuming, as are soda crackers and social tea.

“Be aware that any employee who consumes food belonging to the establishment exposes himself to disciplinary measures, regardless of how he obtains it, as well as the reason invoked”, can we read there.
Threats that do not pass, according to the union of nursing and cardiorespiratory care professionals of Bas-Saint-Laurent.
“It can have an infantilizing effect. We are talking here regarding care staff who have had a particularly difficult summer, ”lamented Joannie Dubé, president of the union.

“It shows that the priorities for the employer are perhaps not put in the right places. We have other priorities on our side. We have a retention problem [du personnel]“, she added.
For its part, the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent admitted that this letter should never have been sent. The health network added that there was no reason for the message that was sent.
The CISSS apologizes.
A childish letter?
For specialists in human resources, the letter received by employees was detailed and might be seen as infantilizing. However, it is added that for many organizations, being vague can cause problems.

“With this level of detail, it can come to frustrate employees, but on the other hand, if the rules were too general and incomprehensible, there is also a source of frustration,” explained Annie Boilard, of Réseau Annie RH.
“I receive a disciplinary notice, because I am told following [ce que je ne peux pas manger], I will say that it is not clear. A soda cookie is not a meal,” she illustrated.
