Soccer runners-up Sturm Graz loaned Belgian central defender Dimitri Lavalée shortly before the end of the transfer window. The 26-year-old comes from KV Mechelen and has signed a loan contract until the summer of 2024, including a purchase option. The Styrians announced this on Friday. Lavalée was trained at Standard Liège and completed 70 games in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
Sporting director Andreas Schicker was delighted with a “technically very experienced left-footed player with strong tackles” who adds another exciting profile to the central defense. “Which will benefit us in an intense autumn with an enormous number of games,” added the sporting director. Lavalée didn’t have a difficult decision to make. “When the request came from Sturm Graz, I didn’t have to think long,” said the 1.87 m tall defender.
On Thursday, a change from regular central defender Gregory Wüthrich had burst. “The transfer to the German Bundesliga will not take place due to problems with the medical check. For us, however, these are not new findings or complications that will stand in the way of him in the future,” stressed Schicker. A move to FC Augsburg is said to have been in the offing, according to kicker the transfer fee would have been 1.5 million euros.
“A lot has been written, and these days I got to know the other, not so nice side of this business,” Wüthrich wrote on Instagram on Friday and thanked for the “incredible support”. The 28-year-old Swiss added that he was in top form and knew what he had in Sturm Graz.
