The suggested retail price for 1 liter of Euro95 at the pump rose to 2,259 euros on Friday. This means that the price has risen further in the past month. On August 1, the suggested retail price was still at 2,214 euros.
The suggested retail price for 1 liter of diesel is now 1,997 euros, reports consumer collective UnitedConsumers. On August 1, diesel still cost 1,897 euros.
These prices are usually only asked along highways, because gas station owners can deviate from the recommended prices of the major oil companies. In other places they are usually lower.
Prices are also rising on the oil market. This is partly due to the message that oil cartel OPEC +, and in particular Russia and Saudi Arabia, want to keep production limited for longer.
The outgoing cabinet would like to reverse an earlier excise duty reduction in January, causing fuel prices to rise even further. This makes petrol an additional 21 cents more expensive and diesel 13 cents.
Ewout Klok, chairman of Belangenvereniging Tankstations (BETA), says that this would be “disastrous” for both Dutch filling station owners in the border region and retailers and supermarkets.
Jacco Vonhof, foreman of MKB-Nederland, also believes that the outgoing cabinet should refrain from increasing fuel excise duty, because it leads to unfair competition with Belgium and Germany.
The ANWB was also critical and wants the outgoing cabinet to intervene to prevent car fuels from becoming even more expensive.
