The European Metropolis of Lille is thinking regarding the idea of creating a place to allow supporters to attend the events of the Olympic Games. But the case is not as simple as it seems.

With the matches taking place in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, the MEL plans to create a festive gathering place in Lille to make the heart of the Olympic Games beat faster. This fan zone, which does not yet say its name, would be set up on the Esplanade, in an enclosed space, where people might come and watch the broadcasts of the other Olympic events on the big screen, eat, play sports and party in the evening. came.

On paper, the idea would be to be able to accommodate 10 to 15,000 people per day. « We are counting on 60,000 visitors per day for the matches, but not everyone will necessarily have tickets to see the matches, believes Eric Skyronka. And then the Olympics, it’s all day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. »

Hence the idea of a specific place in the heart of the capital of Flanders who had been a candidate to organize the 2004 Olympics finally attributed to Athens. But the project is still to be mentioned in the conditional and stuck for the moment for security reasons. “We have a prefect who is very demanding on security and the more we put in the more it is expensive, notes the vice-president of the MEL. It is therefore a file that is still under discussion. »
