In Martinique, the new association, Cyst’Her, is organizing the first events around this disease which affects one in seven women in Europe. Thus, a day dedicated to PCOS is scheduled for Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Appaloosa in François. Health and wellness professionals will be present. There will also be exhibitors.
Workshops, meetings and conferences around this syndrome will take place during the month.
Jessie Antiste Asselie is president and creator of the association, Cyst’Her. This is the first association in the French West Indies to help women with PCOS.
This nurse and naturopath by profession also suffers from the disease. She went very far in her research of this syndrome.
Today, she wants to share her knowledge and experiences with women in Martinique who suffer from PCOS, without even knowing it.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a chronic and progressive disease that affects more than one in seven women of childbearing age.
It causes a disruption of menstrual cycles, the result of which is infertility in 75% of women affected by the syndrome.
PCOS affects the ovaries and causes a hormonal imbalance that manifests itself in many symptoms that complicate a diagnosis. It is estimated that 50% to 70% of people with the syndrome do not know it.
One may experience pain and suffer from irregular periods and infertility. Other symptoms, such as weight gain or loss, fatigue, the appearance of body hair due to hormonal changes, hair loss and acne, are also caused by PCOS.
To date, there is no cure for PCOS.
