From motif cakes to macarons: hobby bakers meet at the Sat.1-Program “The Great Baking” 2023 to find out which of them has the most sensitivity on the mixer. The format has tradition: Today, August 30th, season 11 starts with presenter Enie van de Meiklokjes.

Every week one participant is eliminated from “The Great Baking” 2023. Only three of the original ten candidates make it to the final. The following participants are no longer included:
Isabella (21) from Hanover
Even if Isabella is the youngest opponent, she already has a lot of baking experience, because she has dedicated herself to the hobby for eight years. Her approach is particularly perfectionist: Before Isabelle bakes a cake, she works on the perfect plan and recipe for a long time. She probably applies just as much perfection to her second hobby: in addition to baking, the 21-year-old also dances in the Latin information of her hometown club Hannover 96.

Monika (32) from Chamerau in Bavaria
Monika is professional: the 32-year-old even has her own bakery at home. Her passion for baking started regarding five years ago when she prepared a cake for her grandmother’s 80th birthday. When Monika is not investing her free time in baking, the woman from the Upper Palatinate likes to go to dance school.

Tom (21) from Wachsenburg/Kirchheim in Thuringia
At 21, Tom is one of the two youngest candidates and he has a lot going on: In addition to baking, the Thuringian spends his free time with the volunteer fire brigade and gives German lessons to refugee children. As a sporting balance, he runs 400m hurdles – his achievements in the discipline have even brought him to the German Championship. The student inherited his enthusiasm for baking from his grandfather, because Tom used to work with him in the kitchen.

Sabine (64) from Reinheim in Hesse
Sabine brings a good deal of baking experience to the competition, because “she’s actually always baked,” so she says Sat.1. Sabine has been dealing with the subject really intensively for regarding 10 years. Incidentally, the 64-year-old shares her passion for baking with her husband Joachim, whom she met through a newspaper ad. The art of baking is not Sabine’s only hobby: the retired controller also grows bonsai trees.

Katharina (36) from Lippstadt in North Rhine-Westphalia
Katharina ensures a premiere in “Das Große Backen”: The 36-year-old bakes completely gluten-free and wants to prove that it doesn’t have to be a disadvantage in terms of taste. The housewife and mother from Lippstadt has plenty of opportunities to refine her baking skills: she bakes rolls and bread at home every day and a cake at least once a week.

Erika (21) from Neudorf in Switzerland
No matter what happens in the competition, Erika should stay calm. As one of eight siblings, the 21-year-old is used to the hustle and bustle around her. Erika lives with her family on a farm in Switzerland. She likes to use products from her own company for baking – as natural as possible is the motto. However, Erika does not see her professional future in front of the oven: she would like to study veterinary medicine from next year.

Isabel (32) from Berlin
Isabel would have many talents on offer that she might shine with: The 32-year-old comes from a family of musicians and is also passionate regarding painting. In “Das Große Backen” she wants to convince with her skills between mixer and whisk. But the artistic touch is not neglected here either, because Isabel’s passion is motif and 3D cakes with modeled elements. The 32-year-old lives in Berlin with her husband and child and works as an administrative clerk.

Sandra (37) from Rheinberg in North Rhine-Westphalia
For Sandra, taking part in “Das Große Backen” is a personal dream come true, as she is a fan of the show herself. The 37-year-old also blogs regarding baking and showcases her baked art on Instagram, TikTok and her own website. For Sandra, fun is the top priority with “The Great Baking”: “For me it’s like a baking holiday camp,” says the 37-year-old Sat.1.

Theodor (43) from Bad Bellingen in Baden-Württemberg
Theodor is a trained master hairdresser and promises to Sat.1: “I not only bring momentum to your hair, but also to the baking tent”. The 43-year-old is ambitious and of course wants to hold the golden cupcake in the end. A dose of creativity and willingness to innovate in the oven should help him with this.

Thomas (44) from Munich
Thomas is originally from France and would like to convince – to fulfill the cliché – above all with his patisserie art. He got into baking in 2016 following separating from his wife: From then on he baked every other weekend with their children Anna and Léonard. When he’s not busy with his hobby, the 44-year-old works as a patent examiner.

Watch “The Great Baking” on free TV and stream
The transmission of the 11th season of “The Great Baking” takes over as usual Sat.1. As a result, you can easily watch the show on linear free TV – from August 30, 2023, a new episode will appear every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. According to the broadcast dates of “The Great Backen” in 2023, there will be a total of eight brand new episodes. In addition, the baking broadcast can also be broadcast via the broadcaster’s own streaming service Joy’s track. If you want to see the latest issues a little earlier than everyone else, you can use the paid subscription model Joyn+ the opportunity to do so. In the first episode of “Das Große Backen” the hobby bakers have to face three challenges. You have to master these three tasks:

The jury awards points for each of the three challenges. At the end of the show, the candidate with the lowest score is eliminated – everyone else is a little closer to their goal of becoming the newly crowned winner of “Das Große Backen”.
