According to the media, the young man was hit by a stray bullet during the wedding ceremony in the south of the country on Wednesday. He was initially taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. He later succumbed to his injuries there. The shooter was then arrested. It was initially unclear how the bride and other relatives of the dead man were doing following the incident.
In Jordan, it is illegal to use firearms in public. Nevertheless, there and in other countries in the region, people continue to die from the practice of firing shots in the air at weddings and other celebrations. In 2020, a Jordanian died in this way on the day he was released from prison: the fatal bullet came from the pistol of his cousin – who was actually celebrating.
