The Australian government has increased the minimum bank deposit required to obtain a student visa to ensure financial stability for overseas students. This amount has been increased by 17 percent. With this, from October 1, the minimum savings amount for foreign students has become 24,505 Australian dollars (13.10 lakh rupees).

The number of students increased

A government investigation found that many of the foreign students get admission in Australia’s reputed universities and then switch to other educational institutions at lower cost. Following this discovery, the Australian government tightened the conditions.

The rule that allows students to work following studying for less than six months is also being removed. Previously some students might study and work with it. But this is no longer allowed. Because nearly 17,000 students have used this option so far this year. This is far more than the total of 10,500 students who used it in 2019 and 2022.

Concurrent enrollments, which allow students to register for multiple courses simultaneously, have become increasingly popular among overseas students. These changes to the laws were introduced to ensure that foreign students coming to Australia have a fair education and to prevent scams in the name of their education.
