Sony today not only announced the lineup for PlayStation Plus Essential for September, but also had some less good news: the price for the annual subscription will be higher in the future.
Anyone who uses PlayStation Plus anyway has probably used the annual subscription up to now, because this was ultimately the cheapest alternative if you stuck with it anyway. This will continue to be the case in the future, but unfortunately you will now have to dig deeper into your pockets for this.
Sony has confirmed today that the prices for a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus will be more expensive with effect from September 6th. The reason given is: “The price adjustment will allow us to continue to offer high-quality games and valuable benefits for our PlayStation Plus subscription.”
What does that mean in concrete terms? The new prices at the different subscription levels are as follows:
PlayStation Plus Essential 12 Month Subscription – 71,99 Euro | 79.99 USD | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
PlayStation Plus Extra 12 Month Subscription – 125,99 Euro | 134.99 USD | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
PlayStation Plus Premium 12 Month Subscription – 151,99 Euro | 159.99 USD | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen
The new prices for the 12-month subscriptions are still cheaper than buying a 1-month or 3-month membership, but the price increases are definitely noticeable. For comparison: An Essential annual subscription currently costs 59.99 euros, so the percentage price increase is a whopping 20 percent. Extra is currently available for 99.99 euros, Premium for 119.99 euros – so Sony is clearly turning the price screw.
For those currently on a 12-month subscription, pricing will not change until the next annual billing, which occurs following November 6th. However, any changes to your membership made following September 6th – upgrades, downgrades or additional time – will be billed at the new prices.
