At the scientific meeting, nine clinical cases and six research projects were presented.

The Department of Medical Education of the hospital group Manatí, Mayagüez, Bayamón Medical Center and Puerto Rico Women and Children’s Hospital held the fourth Symposium on Investigation Dr. Carlos Disdier Rodriguez.
At the educational meeting, doctors of the Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residences of the hospitals presented papers investigation and clinical cases. There was also participation of doctors Rotating Internship programs.
At the symposium, nine clinical cases and six research projects were presented. investigation. The jury made up of Dr. Estela S. Estape, an expert in pharmacology and toxicology, Dr. Simón E. Carlo Torres, geneticist, and Dr. Maribel Campos Rivera, pediatrician and expert in investigation clinic, evaluated the presentations and awarded prizes to three of them.
One of the awarded investigations was Effect of 17-P progesterone injection in pregnant women with history of premature birth, cervical insufficiency or PROM, carried out by Dr. Irelis Navarro, a resident of Family Medicine at Mayagüez Medical Center.
It was also recognized investigation Etiologies of opioid dependence in the treatment-seeking population at ASSMCA treatment centers of the Drs. Obed Peña Rodriguez, physician of the Rotary Boarding Program of Bayamón Medical Center.
The third award-winning paper was the clinical case Nephrotic Syndrome an uncommon complication of Secondary Syphilis, presented by Dr. Sheila Acosta, a Family Medicine resident at Manatí Medical Center.
Dr. Vielka Cintrón, corporate director of medical education at the hospital groupexplained the importance of investigation in the formation of doctors.
“In addition to the clinical knowledge they gain in our medical education programs, it’s key to us that our doctors develop their skills investigation at the same time that they contribute knowledge in the field of medicine”, added Dr. Cintrón.
The organization plans to continue holding this meeting annually in which regarding 100 participate doctors internal and residents of the four hospitals.
