3rd Super Moon of the year 2023 on the night of August 30 to 31

2023-08-30 16:30:01

After the Super Deer Moon on July 3, the Super Sturgeon Moon on August 1, here is the Blue Super Moon which will shine in the sky on the night of August 30 to 31. Two full moons in one month, so 13 in 12 months, a phenomenon that occurs every two and a half years and this year it is associated with a Super Moon.

This month of August 2023 is special, it gives us the opportunity to observe a full moon for the second time, a rare event that occurs every two and a half years and more, and is coupled with a blue Super Moon. . This allows us to observe a much brighter star appearing larger than normal. The last blue moon was in 2021.
The moon is better observed because it is closer to the earth. It is 357,181 kilometers away, 33 km closer than at the beginning of the month with the Super Sturgeon Moon. However, the star will not be blue but of its usual color, that is to say rather gray but very bright. A very pleasant spectacle to contemplate with the naked eye.
However for astronomy enthusiasts, the Super Moon is not a very important event, says Frédéric Farrugia, vice-president of the Guyane Astronomie association:

“The moon is rather an enemy of astronomical observation when it illuminates the sky in this way. The observation of the full moon is difficult, we can distinguish much less the reliefs, the craters, the heights. It is not of much interest when it is full and bright, so overlit, it hides other objects from the sky for a good part of the night. It is better to observe during the first quarter. »

But man is not content to observe the moon from the earth, and his next years, there will still be a lot of talk regarding this intriguing star, recalls Frédéric Farrugia:

“The moon will be the most talked regarding star for the next 3 years. A major program called Artemis will enable man to return to the moon. There hasn’t been such a program since the Apollo missions in the 1960s. There’s a fierce struggle going on between the Americans and the Chinese and Europe seems to want to position itself too, and the Kourou space center might become in the years to come a launch center, not only for satellites but also for manned missions… The moon is a strong point of interest for the years to come”.

Guyana Astronomy Association will hold its general meeting in mid-September and will organize the astronomy day in October at Fort Diamant in Rémire-Montjoly.

In the meantime, the Blue Super Moon will be at its peak at 10:35 p.m. in the Guyanese sky this Wednesday. The next and last Super Moon to admire will be that of September 29, it will be the “Super Harvest Moon”.
