According to reporter Ran Xiongfei, Ni Huizhong was taken away at home. Ran Xiongfei pointed out that he might be worried regarding his escape or other aggressive behavior, so a total of six strong men followed him during the whole process. Ni Huizhong took up a series of very important positions such as the director of the Human Resources Development Center of the General Administration of Sports. And his ruin this time may be related to various arrangements during the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Ni Huizhong, 55 years old, studied at the China Youth University for Political Science and then worked for the State Sports General Administration for a long time. Since December 2017, he has served as the director of the Spring Sports Management Center and the leader of the party committee. He is fully responsible for the preparations for the 2023 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Before Ni Huizhong was officially dismissed, according to Tencent.com, former rugby player Liu Kai broke the news on August 17 that the director of a major sports project was taken away, and it has been nearly half a month. He was taken away around August 3 this year. He has been at the department level for more than 8 years, and was expected to be promoted to the deputy bureau level last year.

Liu Kai pointed out that there are champions in this project, but at the same time, the cost is almost sky-high. The director took office around 2017. Moreover, 10 billion was spent in the last preparation cycle. According to what we usually say, the preparation cycle is the Olympic preparation cycle, which is 4 years, and 10 billion will be spent in 4 years.

Liu Kai also released news on social media that there are currently three main lines of sports anti-corruption, namely football, Olympic preparations and others, and each line will have relatively high-level officials sacked.

According to outside analysis, Ni Huizhong, who was arrested this time, was the secretary of the party committee of the Winter Sports Management Center before; and the process of naturalization procedures for ice and snow events, of course, also had to go through Ni Huizhong’s hands.

Earlier, Liu Kai once exposed that the contract between Gu Ailing and the Chinese National Skiing Team was regarding to expire, and the person in charge of the negotiation had already entered, and currently no one is in charge of negotiating the renewal of the contract. Gu Ailing’s contract renewal is left alone.

On January 9 this year, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection reported that Hu Guangyu, deputy director of the Political and Legal Department of the General Administration of Sports, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and was under review and investigation. According to media sources, Hu Guangyu is also in charge of the Olympic preparations office, and there is a problem with the use of funds.

Under the CCP’s nationwide system, a large amount of money is invested in preparing for each major event such as the Olympics, and the leaders in charge have absolute control over the use and whereregardings of funds, which provides space and loopholes for power rent-seeking.

Cai Shenkun, a senior financial commentator and one of the “Top Ten Most Influential and Famous Bloggers” of Fenghuang.com, believes that the corruption of Chinese sports is only a microcosm of the overall corruption of society. “In the past few decades, in fact, the entire corrupt system has led to Corruption flows in every field, industry, and matrix.”

Cai Shenkun believes that corruption in the Chinese sports world has its own particularity. Take football as an example. Over the years, corruption cases have continued to break out in the football world, leading to many people being investigated. However, the Li Tie incident at the end of last year seems to have brought football anti-corruption into another climax.

He said, “This anti-corruption should be the result of the current leaders’ dissatisfaction with the development of sports. As a result, problems came following the investigation, because there are problems everywhere, and corruption is everywhere.”
