The airport in the city of Pksov, in the northwest of Russiawas the target of a drone attack, the regional governor reported this Wednesday (08.30.2023), while Moscow early ordered the closure of the airspace of the Vnukovo International terminal.
The airspace around Vnukovo in Moscow was closed early on Wednesday, the Tass news agency quoted Russian aviation officials as saying.
The closure was ordered following officials said the Russian military was repelling a drone attack on an airport in the western city of Pskov, which damaged four military transport planes, Archyde.com reported.
“The Ministry of Defense is repelling a drone attack at the Pskov airport,” regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov wrote on social media, along with a video of a large fire with sounds of explosions and sirens in the background.
There was no immediate reaction from the ministry. The state news agency TASS confirmed that four heavy transport planes had been damaged.
Vedernikov said he was at the scene of the attack. “According to preliminary information, there are no victims,” he said.

Pskov is located regarding 730 kilometers northwest of Moscow and regarding 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The region of the same name borders Latvia and Estonia, two former Soviet republics now within the European Union.
The Pskov region had already been the target of drone strikes in May.
In recent weeks, Moscow and other regions of Russia have come under drone strikes.
