Dakar, August 29 (APS) – The president of AS Dakar Sacré-Coeur (Ligue 1), Mathieu Chupin, on Tuesday invited local football players to “think regarding setting up a permanent framework for consultation ” able to ”provide solutions to the anomalies” of this sport in Senegal.

“We need to sit down, we club presidents, to create a permanent framework. It will be an entity that will discuss with sports bodies and public authorities, to find solutions to football problems,” said Mr. Chupin when signing a partnership agreement for his club with Jsports, an equipment supplier. Senegalese.

”There is an urgent need to find definitive solutions and measures adapted to the Senegalese context” in terms of football, he said.

The president of Dakar Sacré-Coeur maintains that “the clubs will not achieve anything” if this consultation framework does not see the light of day.

He made the proposal in reaction to the elimination of Génération Foot from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, and Casa Sports from the Confederation Cup, the main club competitions on the continent.

Generation Foot, the champion of Senegal, was eliminated in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, following drawing (2-2) once morest Hafia of Guinea, Sunday, at the Lat-Dior stadium in Thiès .

In the first leg, in Conakry, the teams also drew (0-0).

Casa Sports, representing Senegal in the Confederation Cup, was eliminated following its draw once morest Étoile filante de Ouagadougou (0-0).

He had drawn once morest the Burkinabè club (1-1), at the Lat-Dior stadium in Thies, in the first leg.

For several years, no Senegalese club has reached the group stages of African competitions, while the senior national team of Senegal, winner of the last African Cup of Nations, is at the same time among the first places in the FIFA rankings. for several years.

”It’s a real scandal to see the state of our local football. How can we understand that our clubs are eliminated from CAF competitions?” worried the president of Dakar Sacré-Coeur.

”It’s a real calendar problem and a lot of other things that need to be sorted out,” he added.

”Deep anomalies”

Mathieu Chupin believes that “it is time for things to change”. ”We are not here to beg and ask the state to act as a patron. We want a public-private partnership between the State, sports bodies and professional clubs.”

”We have successful national teams. We are not questioning the work of the federation, but it must be recognized that the work of the clubs is something colossal for the quest for these results obtained over the past two years,” he said.

”Football has become an industry, in 2023, all over the world. There are deep anomalies. I did not receive an invitation either for the final of the League Cup or for that of the Senegal Cup. As club president, I find this abnormal,” said Mr. Chupin indignantly.

The president of Génération Foot (Ligue 1), Mady Touré, also pleaded, following the elimination of his club from the CAF Champions League, for a better organization of local football.

He invited the actors concerned to strive to find solutions to the problems of the clubs.

Last February, the President of the Republic, Macky Sall, asked the Ministry of Sports and Senegalese football leaders to offer him a national program to support local football.
