Exposing Sexual Predators: The Shocking Truth of Gabriel Matzneff, Roman Polanski, and More

Sophie Durocher, in a recent chronicle of Journaltalks fondly regarding the movie trailer The consent, adaptation of the book by Vanessa Springora, victim of sexual predator Gabriel Matzneff. Here is an excerpt from the show Apostrophes where Denise Bombardier, in 1990, courageously denounced – the only one to dare to do so – the pedophile author protected from French cultural, political and media circles. It had earned a shower of insults and threats to our Denise.

However, Matzneff had never hidden his preference for sexual relations with minors, girls or boys, even publishing a book entitled Children under sixteen.

The author, who boasted of his pedophilia and sex tourism in Thailand, has long enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the Parisian literary establishment who had nothing to wax regarding his crimes once morest children. Already the winner of two prizes from the French Academy, he won the prestigious Renaudot prize in 2013.

The publication of the book The consent by Vanessa Springora at the beginning of 2020 had led the Paris prosecutor’s office to open an investigation for rape of a minor (she was 14 in 1986), which is still going on. Unless we find a recent victim whose abuse would not be covered by the prescription, the investigation will end in a dismissal.

In September 2021, it was the former British journalist of Italian origin Francesca Gee who accused Matzneff. In his book The deadliest weaponshe says she had a relationship with him when she was 15, in the 1970s.

And there are other cases…

Director/screenwriter Roman Polanski is another pedophile who enjoys the protection of France. He was convicted in the United States in 1977 of getting drunk and drugging a 13-year-old girl and then raping her. Threatened with a 50-year prison sentence following negotiating a guilty plea which went wrong, he fled and took refuge in France, of which he is a citizen.

Nicolas Sarkozy’s Minister of Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand (nephew of the former president) who had come to the defense of Polanski, himself had to defend himself from being a pedophile: he boasted in a novel autobiographical to have had paid relations with young males during sex tourism stays in Thailand.

Even an Oblate of Mary Immaculate

France has rejected the extradition request for pedophilia of a French priest presented by Justice Canada in October 2022. Oblate father Joannes Rivoire, 92, who is also a Canadian national, is accused of sexual assaults on Inuit children in Nunavut in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Oblates announced that they were initiating “dismissal” proceedings once morest him. The missionary, who left Canada for France in 1993, has always disputed these accusations.

As Polansky’s case shows, France does not extradite its citizens even if there is no statute of limitations. Does this mean that French sexual predators and pedophiles can commit sexual crimes once morest minors abroad with impunity and return to the country, sure that they will never be worried?
