Highly anticipated, most of these projects have been in the pipeline for years, and others must be ready for the Olympics. Spotlight on the new features to come in the coming months.

The start of the new school year promises to be busy in Ile-de-France public transport. A few months before the Olympic and Paralympic Games are held in the region, Valérie Pécresse – at the head of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) – wants to be there. In this context, “the transportation revolution continues this year“, launches on X (ex-Twitter) the president of the region, who cites the arrival of new trains, the opening of new lines or the generalization of the stop on demand. Update on the major new features to come in the coming months.

The Navigo pass available on iPhone

Long awaited, the fact of being able to validate one’s transport tickets directly thanks to one’s iPhone will become a reality at the beginning of the year 2024. Because if it is possible to pay for a ticket or directly with an Android Smartphone, this is still not possible with an Apple brand model. “We are working on the technical aspects, but it will be possible at the beginning of 2024 », promised at the end of July Laurent Probst, the managing director of IDFM, congratulating himself in advance of what will be «a first in Europe». «We will be the first city in Europe and the largest network in the world to be present in the tab “wallet””, he specifies.

A novelty that goes hand in hand with the end of cardboard metro tickets. Initiated in mid-October 2021, with the end of the sale of t+ ticket books in cardboard at the vending machines of the first 102 RATP stations, the discontinuation of the sale of t+ ticket books continues. On September 21, it will no longer be possible to buy cardboard ticket books in all of the 265 stations and stations in the network. Thanks to the development of the “IDF Mobilités” application and the launch of the Navigo Easy and Navigo Liberté + pass, only 29% of t+ tickets were still sold in magnetic booklets.

New renovated or new trains

Less than a year from the Olympic Games in the capital, the modernization of trains is continuing in Ile-de-France public transport. On the program: the arrival of fully renovated MF77 trains on line 8, the arrival of MP14 trains on line 4 and on line 11 to replace the old MP59 trains, the arrival of MP89 on line 6 to replace MP73 trainsets, destined to be reformed. Finally, the deployment of brand new metros continues on line 14, with the arrival of the new eight-car automatic MP14s.

Stopping on demand generalized in Paris

Already implemented on 70 bus lines in the outer suburbs, and in the process of being generalized on all nine new public service delegations deployed since 2021 in this territory, the on-demand stop will be generalized in the evening and at night, from 10 p.m., on all RATP buses, in Paris and the inner suburbs, from September 1. The normal course of things, according to IDFM, which ensures that this service – which “offers the possibility to anyone who wishes to get off between two bus stops in order to bring them closer to their destination” – has been “a great successin a large crown.

No question of stopping just anywhere:the requested stop must be on the route of the line“, we specify at IDFM, recalling that “the driver will decide the exact descent point (…) closer to the destination“, provided that the stop is “well lit, with good visibility and a pedestrian path near“. In fact, drivers are now all trained in this procedure, which can only be carried out at the front of the vehicle. On this subject, IDFM intends to make a “specific communication in buses», with a section on security.

Multiple lines extended or created

In addition, several line extensions are planned in the coming months. Among them, that of line 11 to Rosny-Bois-Perrier (Seine-Saint-Denis) with six new stations, that of line 14 to Saint-Denis-Pleyel, future hub of the Grand Paris Express also located in the Seine -St Denis. On the RER side, we are also awaiting the extension of the RER – a project called “Aeolus– between Saint-Lazare and Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine). In addition to the new T10 tram between Clamart and Antony put into service at the beginning of June, a new tram line should also see the light of day at the end of 2023: the T12 tram between Massy and Evry, in Essonne. Finally, work is continuing for the extension of T3b between Porte d’Asnières and Porte Dauphine, in western Paris.

The price increase under consideration

So many new features that justify an increase in prices, which should be voted on during the administrative council of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) in December. The price of the monthly Navigo pass – already increased from 75.20 to 84.10 euros on January 1, 2023 – might once more undergo a further increase, probably modeled on inflation. Hard hit by the drop in revenue and the increase in operating expenses, the coffers of IDFM must be bailed out, argues the authority. But the idea is tolimit as much as possiblethis hike.

Good news, however, for civil servants, since the management of “employer» of their home-to-work transport subscription will increase from 50 to 75% from the start of the school year. A decree to this effect was signed on August 21.
