[디지털데일리 김도현 기자] Samsung Electronics has released a new product in the NAND flash sector. It is a dimension to target a different area than before amid the prolonged recession of the downstream industry.
On the 29th, Samsung Electronics announced that it would release a new SD (Secure Digital) card and micro SD card with enhanced speed and stability, ‘PRO Ultimate’.
This product group is a memory card that provides an optimal solution for professional photographers and creators. It is said that it provides stable performance not only for smooth operation of high-capacity content, but also for repetitive data read, write, and erase operations.
This product family provides up to 200 megabytes per second (MB/s) read speed and 130 MB/s write speed, the highest level of UHS-I (Ultra High Speed) standards. This is a level that can transmit a 1.3 gigabyte (GB) movie in 11.2 seconds.
It supports stable reading and writing speeds regardless of capacity. For reference, UHS-I is a memory card standard introduced by the SD Association to indicate high transmission speed of file and video data.
In the case of a micro SD card, A2 grade is separately supported to smoothly support continuous reading, writing and multitasking. A2 is the standard for random reading and writing speeds of memory cards.
Samsung Electronics has enhanced reliability by strengthening the ‘ECC (Error Correction Code) engine’ of the controller for this product line. LDPC (Low Density Parity Check), a type of ECC, has been improved from the existing 1 kilobyte (KB) to 2 KB so that consumers can use it longer without worrying regarding data loss.

In addition, data is safely protected in extreme external environments such as waterproofing, falling, abrasion, X-rays, magnetic fields, and temperature changes. In the case of an SD card, it can withstand up to 1500 grams (g) of impact.
Samsung Electronics applied a 28-nano controller to this lineup, improving power efficiency by up to 37% compared to the previous one. As a result, consumers are expected to be able to use the device for a long time without frequent recharging.
Compatibility with various devices is also provided. The Pro Ultimate SD card works with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, camcorders, PCs and laptops. You can quickly create, edit, and transmit high-end content on multiple devices.
The Pro Ultimate Micro SD card supports compatibility with a wide range of devices such as smartphones, tablets, handheld game consoles, action cams, drones, and PCs.
“As the amount of high-resolution content generated by devices such as drones, action cams, and DSLR cameras increases, professional creators must be able to work with large-capacity content without interruption,” said Son Han-gu, managing director of the Brand Product Biz Team of Samsung Electronics’ Memory Division. Ultimate will meet the needs of creators as well as professionals with enhanced speed and stability, such as new controllers and data protection features.”
Meanwhile, the Pro Ultimate Micro SD card will be released on the 29th, and the SD card will be released in October. Depending on the capacity of each product, all options with a card reader can be selected and purchased. The warranty period is 10 years.
