O WhatsApp just announced the launch of its new application for Macwhich promises to make better use of larger screens and offer a more familiar experience for Apple users.

The big news in this new version, however, is support for video calls with up to 8 participants — an option that was already available in the WhatsApp app for iOS since 2020 — and audio calls with up to 32 participants. Recently, it is worth remembering, the messenger also gained support for screen sharing in video calls.

The news, however, does not stop there. According to the messenger, users can also use the new app to join calls that are already in progress, as well as see their call history and choose to receive notifications of new calls or not while the app is closed.

Also according to the information, users can also now share files from their Macs just by dragging them into a conversation, which will surely save them a few clicks. You can also use the app to access more details regarding the history of conversations, which, like any other WhatsApp app, remain end-to-end encrypted.

Furthermore, this is the first WhatsApp app for macOS that runs natively on Apple Silicon machines — it minimally requires macIS Big Sur.

The new app, which was in beta a few months ago, is worth noting, can now be downloaded by the messenger’s official website. According to Meta, it will also be available on the Mac App Store soon.
