How renewables are dampening the price of electricity
St. Polten (OTS) – Since 2021 we have been struggling with the energy crisis and extremely expensive electricity. We have a roller coaster ride of electricity prices behind us. But how do renewables influence electricity prices now and in the future?
After the energy crisis, people’s wallets are empty because the extremely expensive fossil power plants at home and abroad, on which we are dependent, are driving up the price of electricity. In the EU, we currently only generate a fifth of the electricity with renewable energies. With the EU target of increasing electricity generation from renewables to two-thirds by 2030, things are slowly getting tight. Consequently, the course for a renewable energy future must be set now.
- What role do renewables play in curbing the enormously high electricity prices?
- What would electricity prices look like if there were no electricity generated from renewables?
- And how do the electricity prices in other European countries differ from those in Austria?
These and other questions will be discussed at European and national level by the experts from Ember and the Austrian Energy Agency as well as IG Windkraft at this press conference.
