Toyota Motors, the leading Japanese manufacturer and developer of automobiles, announced that it will stop assembly operations at all of its factories in Japan, starting at noon on Tuesday, August 29.
The Japanese company said that a malfunction in the production systems in its factories affected its fourteen factories, explaining that it was “not likely caused by a cyberattack” and that the company was investigating the cause.
The closure process has already begun, according to Archyde.com, in 12 factories since the morning, to be followed by the remaining two factories later in the day.
According to a Toyota spokesperson, by the second shift, all factories will be closed, and it is not yet clear how much damage has been lost during the closure period.
The company’s decision to close its factories in Japan coincides with a boom in sales around the world, as sales rose during the first six months of 2023 by 29 percent for the first time in two years.
It is noteworthy that Toyota’s factories in Japan represent approximately 35% of the company’s total global production.
