BMW M Motorsport Dominates IMSA Races: Double Victories and Podium Finishes

IMSA series: Paul Miller Racing and Turner Motorsport celebrate double victory.

Last weekend, as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA Series) at Virginia International Raceway (USA), the GT3 vehicles were among themselves for the second time this season – and in the GTD class, the BMW M4 GT3 was the benchmark of the things. With Madison Snow and Bryan Sellers (both USA), Paul Miller Racing celebrated their fifth class win of the season in an impressive manner, thereby setting a new IMSA record. At the finish of the 2:40 hour race, he had “>#1 BMW M4 GT3 in third place overall and class winner, more than twelve seconds ahead of the “>#96 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3. Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher (both USA) proved to be masters of fuel economy and, coming second, made the double victory perfect for the BMW M Motorsport teams. Bill Auberlen and Chandler Hull (both USA) were in “>#97 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 in third place shortly before the finish, but then had to give up one position and narrowly missed out on the GTD podium. Two races before the end of the season, Paul Miller Racing is regarding to defend its title in the IMSA Sprint Cup and also clearly leads the overall driver and team standings in the GTD class. In the manufacturers’ standings, BMW is in first place. The next IMSA race will take place on September 17 in Indianapolis (USA). There, BMW M Team RLL will be back in action with the two BMW M Hybrid V8s.

IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge: Podium for Turner Motorsport.

On the race weekend at Virginia International Raceway (USA), the BMW M4 GT4 was in action, among other things, as part of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC). Turner Motorsport in particular attracted attention with strong results. First came Cameron Lawrence and Robert Megennis (both USA). “>#95 BMW M4 GT4 on pole position. But the duo had bad luck in the race and dropped back to eleventh place. Their team-mates Robby Foley and Vincent Barletta (both USA) fared much better, coming from eleventh on the grid in the number 96 car and finishing second on the podium. VP Racing SportsCar Challenge: Five out of six podiums for BMW teams.

The VP Racing SportsCar Challenge also held two races at the Virginia International Raceway (USA), each of which was dominated by the BMW M4 GT4. The BMW M Motorsport teams Turner Motorsport and Stephen Cameron Racing secured five of six possible podium finishes with the vehicle. In Saturday’s race, Turner driver Francis Selldorff (USA) triumphed in the GSX class ahead of Gregory Liefooghe (USA, Stephen Cameron Racing) and his Turner team-mate Vincent Barletta (USA). On Sunday, Liefooghe turned the tables and won ahead of Selldorff. In fourth place, Sean Quinlan (USA) in the second BMW M4 GT4 fielded by Stephen Cameron Racing narrowly missed out on the podium. In the overall ranking of the racing series, Selldorff and Turner Motorsport are clearly in the lead in the driver and team rankings. When it comes to manufacturers, BMW is first.

Japanese Super GT Series: Bruno Spengler supports BMW M Team study.

Last weekend, the fifth round of the season in Suzuka (JPN) was on the agenda of the Japanese Super GT Series. BMW M works driver Bruno Spengler (CAN) and Seiji Ara (JPN) contested the 450 km race in the BMW M Team Studie “>#7 BMW M4 GT3. However, the duo suffered from the maximum success ballast of 100 kilograms and missed out on a top 10 result. After 70 laps, starting from 13th place on the grid, 16th was the only possible position.

Super Series: Jesse Krohn successfully supports the AAI Motorsports team.

BMW M works driver Jesse Krohn (FIN) traveled to Malaysia last weekend to support BMW M Motorsport Team AAI Motorsports in its starts in the Thailand Super Series. He did this with great success. Krohn shared the cockpit of the Sepang “>#91 BMW M4 GT3 with Chun Hua Chen (TPE) and celebrated a win and a third place with him in both races.

BTCC: BMW teams on the podium three times at Donington Park.

The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) came to Donington Park (GBR) for its eighth round of the season. The BMW teams celebrated a podium finish in each of the three races. In races one and two, Jake Hill (GBR) finished second and third in the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW 330e M Sport. In the third race, Hill was only able to finish eighth, but Adam Morgan (GBR) from Team BMW was able to celebrate third place. In the first two races, Morgan had finished twelfth and ninth. Colin Turkington (GBR) showed consistently strong performances with places five, four and six, even without a podium. Stephen Jelley (GBR) finished 19th, 13th and tenth in the fourth BMW 330e M Sport.

In the drivers’ standings, Hill is third with two race weekends to go, closely followed by Turkington in fourth. In the manufacturers’ standings, BMW narrowly defended its lead.

GT4 Scandinavia: Podium for M-Car Racing in Anderstorp.

The BMW M4 GT4 of the M-Bilar Racing team clinched another podium at the GT4 Scandinavia race weekend in Anderstorp (SWE). Victor Bouveng and Joakim Walde (both SWE) finished third in race two following finishing fourth in race one. In the overall standings, the duo is in third place.
