The Warren County Court System is one of the first in the United States to test a new device that encompasses all the functionality of a monitoring bracelet in connected watches.
This is happening in LEBANON, Ohio. The technology called VeriWatch responsible for electronic watch for the adult probation service is relatively new. However, this did not hesitate the assistant director of the Court of Pleas of Warren County. Here’s what it’s all regarding.
Warren County put to work
The warren county to one of highest assignment rates of electronic monitoring devices to offenders in lieu of incarceration in Ohio. It is also second only to Franklin County.
Therefore, working in partnership with Business Intelligence Inc. assistant manager Mike Steele and his team decided to act. By lending a hand to the company, for fifteen years, the launch of a new technology is underway. This concerns the installation of a new GPS monitoring device on connected watches.
So Warren County made it the demonstration on adults placed on probation by the courts. Among these people, there are, for example, those who have failed to appear in court or have failed to pay the charges imposed on them.
Connected surveillance watches, more discreet than electronic bracelets
This initiative was undertaken to help the Warren County Court of Pleas carry out its work.
But the wearing an electronic bracelet at work or in public for a minor offense is also stigmatizing. People who wear an electronic bracelet are often non-violent, low-severity offenderswho participate in reintegration programs or who are awaiting trial.
Therefore, smartwatches with the same system as regular monitoring devices are more discreet. Instead of wearing a bulky and conspicuous ankle box, the technology VeriWatch a decrease client stigmatization under judicial supervision in public.
How the smartwatch works
The monitoring device of the connected watch type works like a traditional electronic bracelet. He follows the movements of its wearer but with additional technological advantages.
The carrier and the agents de probation can stay in touch through integrated messaging system. And the biometric scanner of the device identify the face of the user to confirm his geographical location. It even has a calendar of upcoming court dates.
The connected watches in which this device is found can be recharged using a portable charger which attaches to the bracelet. And they are also secured by specific locks. If the wearer tries to remove them, proximity sensors detect it.
In the end, thanks to this monitoring device. Carriers may feel more comfortable re-entering society. Likewise when they are simply trying to carry on with normal activities that would otherwise be hampered by the traditional device.
