The National Union of Air Traffic Controllers (SNCTA), the leading union in this profession in France, has filed a national strike notice targeting Friday, September 15, just before the Rugby World Cup, which takes place in the France from September 20 to October 8.
The strike call is addressed to “all air traffic controllers and traffic watch officers”, specifies the SNCTA in a press release published on Monday.
The air traffic controllers denounce “the silence” of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) in the face of the inflationary situation despite multiple alerts from the SNCTA.
They are demanding an increase in their salary in line with the general increase in prices, in accordance with mechanisms provided for by the European Union.
And to demand that “these mechanisms are finally properly taken into account and that the unjustifiable dogmatism of the public authorities which accentuates the dropout vis-à-vis European counterparts and devalues both the performance and the purchasing power of air traffic controllers” .
The movement of planes might therefore be disrupted by the strike, while France is hosting the Rugby World Cup in different places on its territory.
Several leading European airlines have previously expressed their exasperation with multiple strikes by French air traffic controllers which they say are costing them dearly by causing delays and cancellations.
