HUMOR. L’Éveil, a community resource in mental health, swapped sneakers for laughter as part of its annual fundraiser. Its leaders can say mission accomplished since 350 people attended its first comedy evening, held last Friday (August 25), at La Frontalière secondary school.

In turn, Rachelle Elie, Yannick De Martino, youtuber Andy St-Louis, Stéphane Fallu and Réal Béland pushed their best jokes on the public square stage.

“In my opinion, it was a resounding success,” says the organization’s executive director, Stéphanie Vachon. We are very happy. It was a nice evening. The public was there and the artists gave their all. »

According to the first report, a sum close to $10,000 was raised during the event. “The money will be used to maintain our service offer during the summer. We also want to improve our component for 12-18 year olds. It’s something we’ve been doing for two years now. We want to have it for the very long term and for it to be an integral part of our mission,” underlines Ms. Vachon. She also points out that the services of L’Éveil are increasingly in demand. There was a 40% increase over last year.

Remember that this evening of humor was put forward for the benefit of the event “12 days in June”, a big march where participants traveled throughout the MRC of Coaticook to carry the message of the organization. “We opted for laughter this time,” explains the general manager. We thought people needed to get away from it all, get together and have fun. In addition, laughter helps enormously in terms of mental health. So it’s positive all the way. »

Given the success of the humorous meeting, the leaders of L’Éveil have confirmed the return of the evening of humor for the summer of 2024. All that remains is to know the formula that will be adopted, namely if it will be a mini-gala or even an event with a single headliner.
