Santiago: Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for the Protection of Life, said that wasting food is evil and is tantamount to discarding a human being. He stated this in a speech at the headquarters of the United Nations Agency for Latin America in Santiago, Chile, a Latin American country.
“When you waste food unnecessarily, you are actually discarding human beings. Such intolerable and extremely shameful acts will make us guilty before history and before God,” he said. Nearly 47% of Latin America is undernourished, with major consequences for the future. He added that in many places in Latin America he had met people who might not even stand upright due to malnutrition.
“We need to overcome the cold logic of the market in the fight once morest hunger. We must prioritize solidarity with the hungry beyond mere financial gain. Food is the life of people and society. A spiritual approach with responsibility is needed in this regard,” he pointed out.
