Gathered for his political comeback, Ecolo announced their intention to resume work on tax reform.
Ecolo projected himself on Sunday in 2024, the last year of the legislature which will be marked by a double ballot, the legislative elections in June and the municipal elections in October, as well as by the Belgian presidency of the European Union (EU). The party said it was proud of its achievements at the different levels of power in which it participates and it has already made it known that the work was not finished.
“The challenge of these coming months and of the next legislature will be to change scale and further affirm the transition”
Jean-Marc Nollet
Co-president of Ecolo
“The challenge of these coming months and of the next legislature will be to change scale and further affirm the transition. We have moved the lines in terms of mobility, energy, environment, culture, fight once morest violence once morest women, economic transition, but we have not finished the job. We know that we must speed up because there is a huge delay that the traditional parties have been carrying for years. The first time to do it was 40 years ago. The second best time is now. The longer we wait, the more expensive it will be”, explained co-president Jean-Marc Nollet to the occasion of Ecolo’s political return to the Domaine de Massembre.
Different priorities
The Greens set several priorities. As announced, they want resume work on tax reform -which failed before the holidays- to allow low and medium salaries to benefit from a salary increase, bring regarding reforms in terms of public governance (salaries of parliamentarians and financing of political parties) before the dissolution of the Chambers and, at the European level, continue the fight on nature restoration law saved in extremis at the European Parliament.
Environmentalists pose alternative to preservatives, targets of their criticism. “The conservative parties… We knew them to be ecologically and socially conservative, we discover them to have amnesia. If they weren’t, how dare they put so much energy into reducing our climate ambitions and preventing us from defending the nature? To defend us? In truth, they only dream of one thing: that we let our guard down, better go, so that they can put the transition on hold, or more likely, outright go back. They are the dogmatists!”, launched co-president Rajae Maouane.
