SpaceX’s manned spaceship Crew Dragon, carrying four astronauts, successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX announced on the 27th (local time) that the docking of the Crew Dragon and the ISS took place over Australia at around 9:16 am (Eastern US standard). Crew Dragon is SpaceX’s 7th ISS manned transport mission (Crew-7). It succeeded in docking in regarding 30 hours following taking off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 3:27 am the previous day. NASA and SpaceX’s Mission Control team closely watched the entire docking process. “It’s important to be slow and stable to bring the two spacecraft together,” said NASA commentator Leah Cheshire. “The docking procedure requires a lot of precision to keep the spacecraft and its astronauts safe.” After docking, the four aviators embarked on the necessary procedures to reconnect Crew Dragon and the ISS in a safe and airtight condition. After that, it is known that the spacecraft door was opened at around 11:02 am and moved to the ISS to join other astronauts currently on mission at the ISS. The ISS is carrying out missions at the ISS with four astronauts who were brought on the Dragon Endeavor, a crew-6 mission manned spacecraft, on March 2. “We’ll hear from them regarding the flight and visit to the ISS,” Cheshire said. “Then they’ll go straight to work.” The four astronauts will stay on the ISS for six months and conduct more than 200 scientific research and experiments before returning to Earth early next year. During their stay at the ISS, they try to study the human body’s response to various space flight times and investigate the physiological aspects of astronauts’ sleep. In addition to American female astronaut Jasmine Mogbeli, who led the mission, the spacecraft carried astronauts from four countries: Danish Andreas Morgensen, Japanese Satoshi Furukawa, and Russian Konstantin Borisov from the European Space Agency (ESA). In the meantime, SpaceX’s manned spacecraft has included two to three Americans, and this is the first time that all astronauts are of different nationalities. (Photo = UPI, Yonhap News)
