A 22-23 exercise that exceeded expectations. This is how the year spent by the Anniviarde society was summed up at its annual general meeting held this Saturday in St-Luc. “We would be crazy not to say that this exercise is good. It is a magnificent exercise, with figures that are beyond certain experiences in the past”, exults Marc Chabloz, interim director of the company.
As proof, the turnover exceeds 11 million francs. The net profit for the past financial year amounted to more than one million francs, more than double that of the previous financial year. The company was also able to generate a cash flow of nearly 3 million francs.
Blue gold as a major challenge
If the management report of the SA speaks of a record financial year, it is without taking into account the vagaries of the climate. The summer and fall seasons went very well, according to the company’s board of directors. The winter, for its part, was more difficult to manage. In question, a lack of snow also record. Funiculaire St-Luc Chandolin SA’s management report states that in fifty years, there has never been so little snow above 2000 meters in altitude.
This is one of the reasons that prompted shareholders to reflect on the future of the branch. A project to capture water from the Illsee dam is planned. The goal: to enable better management of this blue gold, which is then transformed into white gold. “In this way, we will be able to snow the slopes in a more economical and more ecological way”, specifies Marc Chabloz, before adding that by proceeding in this way, three times more energy might be saved.
A soon-to-be-renovated funicular?
Among the projects on the table, the company is also betting on the renovation of the funicular. “This funicular is thirty years old. It is a major tool for us and especially for four-season tourism”, underlines the interim director. And to specify: “In St-Luc, we are the first station to open in the spring and the last to close in the fall. We are going to make sure that we can adapt this funicular to bicycles, strollers and all that ensues. “.

Between them, the project to capture water from the Illsee dam and the desire to renovate the funicular, require several million francs. More than fifteen, to be precise, according to the company’s management report.
Improve the attractiveness of the region
But this is not the biggest challenge facing the SA, according to Marc Chabloz. The real problem lies in the fact that the staff as well as the available accommodation are still lacking. “We implement an active search for accommodation because it is really the black point that holds back seasonal workers enormously and makes them think regarding whether or not to come and work with us. We therefore try to go upstream, find accommodation for these young people, these people who come to lend us a hand”, explains Marc Chabloz.
The latter also specifies that by doing so, it is the attractiveness of the region that is improved. According to him, tourists and employees would thus have more reasons to extend their stays in the resort. “Our goal is to be able to sustain the station, the jobs, the lives of the inhabitants,” he concludes.
