Touba, August 27, 2023 (AIP) – The vaccination campaign once morest rabies and Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) aimed at vaccinating at least 70% of pets, launched on Thursday August 24, 2023 by the prefect of the Bafing region , prefect of the department of Touba, Kouakou Yao Dinard, continues in the departments of Touba, Ouaninou and Koro.

“The vaccination of pets, dogs, cats, monkeys, mongoose, once morest rabies and PPR, protects animals and people, especially children. I invite all pet owners to have their animals vaccinated,” the prefect said at the launch ceremony for this campaign organized by the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources.

The research officer at the directorate of veterinary services of the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Dr. Zanan Coulibaly, explained that over the past ten years, 14 diseases including rabies and PPR have seen their prevalence increase. , affecting public health.

“It is necessary to effectively control these diseases by improving vaccination coverage. And this, in order to protect animal health and public health. We rely on pet owners to have their pets vaccinated. This operation is free,” insisted Dr. Coulibaly.

The Regional Director of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Souanga N’Dri Bernard Jean Luc, recalled that in 2022, more than 50 cases of rabies including one death were recorded in the department of Touba. Seven fixed posts are deployed and the animals are vaccinated parenterally, marked by collar and indelible ink to facilitate vaccination coverage surveys.

“This vaccination is a chance for us. My poodle’s name is Kuiki. It has been a long time since she was vaccinated. Today, she has just received a vaccination,” rejoiced Ouattara Méhigué, a 4th grade student at Gouverneur Abdoulaye Fadiga high school in Touba.

This vaccination campaign once morest rabies and PPR is carried out in synergy of action with the regional directorate of animal and fishery resources, and the National Institute of Public Hygiene (INHP) of Touba.
