German-American actress Diane Kruger, 47, said that the strike that has paralyzed Hollywood for months is partly due to the “stingy studios”.
The former supermodel spoke frankly regarding the historic protest movement of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood, during an interview with Agence France-Presse on the sidelines of her participation in the “Angouleme Francophone Film Festival”, to accompany the screening of the new feature film “Vision”, by French director Yann Gozlan.
Kruger – who won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017 – stressed “the need to protect innovation and excellence at all costs”, criticizing the use of artificial intelligence, which is one of the controversial points that the strike focuses on. She added, “The strike is in fact due to the fact that studios in the United States are (stingy), and this is not the case in France.” And she considered that the “real problem” is “how to pay people,” as “the working hours are unbelievable … the number of working hours per day in Hollywood usually ranges between 14 and 16 hours.”
Kruger’s return to French cinematic productions will be through the character (Estelle), which she embodies in the psychological suspense movie “Vision”, directed by Yann Gozlan, which will be shown in French theaters, starting from the sixth of next September. Kruger commented, “I was looking for a real nice role for my return to France,” noting that she jumped for joy when she was offered the role.
