The military regime that seized power in Niamey announced on Friday that it was giving France’s ambassador to Niger 48 hours to leave the country, according to a statement issued by Niger’s foreign ministry.
Following the ministry’s “decline by the French ambassador to Niamey” for a meeting on Friday and other actions by the French government considered detrimental to Niger’s interests, the authorities chose to withdraw their approval from Mr. Sylvain Itte and to ask him to leave Nigerien territory within forty-eight hours, the statement said.

he military regime specifically accused Paris of intending to intervene militarily in Niger to restore Mr. Bazoum and claimed that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was an organization “at the Balance” of France, the former colonial power in the region.
