Nine o’clock in the morning, in front of the international travel corridor of the Gare du Midi. While police uniforms are scarce in the station, a small group of three plainclothes inspectors identifying themselves as belonging to the Railway Police stare at the IDs of some handpicked passers-by. “That is our daily work,” agrees to answer one of them, ensuring that there is no question of carrying out such checks as part of a specific action.
An hour later, however, the atmosphere has radically changed within the station. It is indeed a cloud of police suits that has just surrounded the main railway gateway to the kingdom. Some are marked with the Marlow police zone, others with the Brussels-Capital-Ixelles zone, and still others with the federal police. But the operation is well carried out under the aegis of the Brussels-Midi police zone, referent for the territories of Anderlecht, Saint-Gilles and Forest.
