After the former director of the Austrian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Peter Gridling, criticized Herbert Kickl and Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) on Friday, VP General Secretary Christian Stocker went out once more on Saturday to warn once morest the FPÖ boss. “It turns out that Kickl was and remains a threat to Austria’s internal security.” At the time, however, Gridling did not feel sufficiently supported by the ÖVP either.
In interviews with ZiB2 and Falter, Gridling spoke in detail regarding the “attack” on the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (BVT) – meaning the raid on February 28, 2018, which led to the reorganization of state security. During his office, Gridling pointed out “Kickl’s proximity to the new right-wing scene”, because “the BVT protects the constitutional institutions from extremists. We are therefore very strongly focused on political crimes. And of course we have repeatedly observed politicians who use the system wanted to change – for example in the FPÖ.”
