Kuwait’s Draft Law to Regulate Media: Strict Punishments for Violations

Kuwait ∙ The Kuwaiti Ministry of Communications has formulated a draft law to regulate the media. Strict punishments including fines are provided for media persons and institutions acting once morest the laws of the country. Criticism of the Emir, Deputy Emir and Crown Prince is prohibited. Those who violate the law will be punished with imprisonment of up to 3 years and a fine ranging from half a lakh to one lakh dinars. The institution has a maximum of 2 lakh dinars.

It is also made clear that no move to subvert the country’s administration will be tolerated.

Do not disrespect or disrespect the Constitution. Do not offend public morals. Must not break laws or incite to commit crimes. It is forbidden to publish or display anything that defames Islam, the Prophets, Companions, their wives and families.
