With the presence of edward crespoits artistic director and Francisca D’Agostinosecretary of Culture of Entre Rios the 5th edition of the VICAR, International Film Festival of Entre Ríos in the San Martín Palace, in the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
The new edition of the festival will focus on the 40 years of democracy and in the poetry, and will take place between on September 6 and 9 in Paraná, Entre Ríos. According to his director, Crespo, “this year he has some guidelines with which forty years of recovered democracy. One of the films that we are going to be screening is Juan, as if nothing had happenedof Carlos Echeverria, which is a fascinating and foundational film for the cinema of the beginnings of democracy, a film that personally has marked me a lot. We think it’s great that these types of films can be seen at festivals, since many times they don’t make it to the provinces”, he acknowledges and adds that “they will also be seen the trialthe documentary on the Trial of the Military Juntas, by the director Ulysses of the Orderas in the last edition the festival opened with Argentina, 1985, by Santiago Mitre, and a restored version of another Argentine classic, Prisoners of the Earth, by Mario Soffici.
“It will be the finishing touch of this edition, a restored copy of the Mario Soffici film filmed in 1939 in our region, which will be presented by Paula Félix-Didier, the director of the Pablo Ducrós Hicken Museum of Cinema in Buenos Aires, in charge of the restoration”, explains Crespo.
For D’Agostino, it is important that the festival maintain its sections, which lists “Regional Cinema, Entre Ríos Cinema, National Cinema, International Cinema, Entre Ríos Short Films and Children’s Cinema, which is very important for us because we work hard to show children very young, who are very used to seeing on screens, another way of watching movies. In Paraná there are not many theaters, so many times, at FICER it is the first time that children can see a children’s film on big screens. For us, this is important because we show them a new way of looking, to which they are not used, ”he highlights.
He also points out that in this edition, there will be five sub-sites in the interior of the province: “Concordia, Federal, Concepción del Uruguay, Villaguay and Rosario del Tala, which will see the same films that are shown in Paraná,” he explains.
Another of the axes of the fifth edition of this festival will be poetry. “There will be many films that have a different approach, that show the link between cinema and poetry and a special activity in the patio between the rooms of the Old Usina and the Provincial Convention Center, where there will be a performance with poets Contemporary people from Entre Ríos are going to dialogue in some way with the dead poets from Entre Ríos, in a kind of projection and live reading” Crespo announces.
This intervention was baptized as Entre Ríos Paranormal Poetry Phenomenon, which proposes a rapprochement between cinema and local poetry, between living and dead poets, between words and images. D’Agostino completes: “As Juan L. Ortiz The river crossed it, he and all his beautiful poetry crosses us. The idea is an activity where contemporary poets dialogue with the work of Juanele and other poets from Entre Ríos, supported through audiovisual productions that change in that interaction. We really like the climates that are created in these activities, where we can delve a little into poetry, the Entre Ríos… Entre Ríos poetry, beyond the authors, is traversed by the Entre Ríos landscape, the rivers, the hills, the blades, the mountains, the fauna, the flora and in each of the poems by authors from urban or more rural localities, there is something of the landscape that sneaks in”, defines the official.
Other details that will be part of the game at FICER 2023 will be the meetings in the Audiovisual Market space where filmmakers from Entre Ríos and the other provinces of the NEA Litoral Region will be present, the screening of films from Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands and England and a meeting of provincial cinematheques and archives “Ant work is being done to recover, preserve and restore films that belong to the provinces and their memory. There are going to be short films by pioneers of Chaco cinema, from NEA and coastal organizations, so that is another important thing regarding the festival”, Crespo assures.
