Unraveling the Mystery: Like a Dragon Gaiden and Kiryu Kazuma’s Return in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Only a few months are left before the release of the next part of the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) series. The spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name should link the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. And during gamescom 2023, IGN asked Like a Dragon series producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto regarding what awaits players (including spoilers!). As fans of the series will remember, Kiryu Kazuma last appeared as the main character in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. And then in the finale, in order to find the best way out of a whole series of difficult situations, the former yakuza fakes his own death. But in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, he reappears, and for newcomers, his character becomes a real mystery. Like a Dragon Gaiden was conceived as a story regarding what happened to the iconic character from the end of the sixth part until the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. And the developers from the very beginning were going to make Kiryu the second main character of the eighth part of the series. As we already know, players will be returning to Sotenbori in Osaka and Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama. But there will also be a completely new location: “Castle”, an adult amusement park. It was shown in the demo presented at gamescom. And its passage can be seen in a special broadcast of the studio Ryu Ga Gotoku. In the Castle, we can get to the Colosseum – this is a special arena for battles. On it we will be able to play not only for Kazuma, but also for other characters. There will also be team fights in which we will be able to take the most unexpected comrades-in-arms. But we have yet to find out the details. Given that Kiryu decides to radically change his life, it seems logical that he also changes his fighting style and even appearance. The Man Who Erased His Name will have a customization feature, and players will be able to mock Kazuma by changing his appearance. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name releases November 9th for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
