Despite the investment of “tens of thousands of euros”, according to the company in charge of the project, the experiment will not be renewed. Security and sealing problems are particularly singled out.
The experiment will have been a failure. A little over a year following their installation, the two micro-warehouses installed in Paris in June 2022, allowing “to deliver shops and parcels by bike”, have been removed from the streets of the capital, reports this Friday The Parisian.
Installed in the 3rd arrondissement, at the level of boulevard Beaumarchais and rue de Réaumur, these small wooden “hubs” of the company Sogaris presented a mixed record.
If Jonathan Sebbane, managing director of the Sogaris group, assures our colleagues that “11,000 parcels were able to be distributed by cargo bike thanks to the Hub on boulevard Beaumarchais” and that the equipment “has fulfilled its function, that of promoting cycling -logistics”, it is clear that the project did not convince the Parisians.
“The balance sheet has both positive and negative points,” said Jonathan Sebbane, quoted by Le Parisien.
Lack of sealing and security
If the wooden mini-warehouse on boulevard Beaumarchais was to boost deliveries by bicycle, by storing parcels in compartments before dispatch, the other located near there, rue de Réaumur, was to allow the collection of office waste.
Faced with garbage deposits within the latter, but also problems pointed out in terms of securing the micro-hub or its sealing on the Beaumarchais side, Jonathan Sebbane concedes to our colleagues that “we must go back to the work”.
“These hubs are eco-designed with a modular structure and a Robinia wood covering. It is a particularly resistant and dense species, which makes it an ideal material for this outdoor equipment”, yet assures the business on son site internet.
On the side of the city of Paris, we do not regret this failed initiative. “I see ironic messages on social networks regarding the end of the experiment. This is the principle of an experiment: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!”, justifies Ariel Weil, mayor (PS) of Paris-Centre at the Parisian.
