International institutions have placed Lebanon in an advanced position on the world stage with regard to the high prices of food commodities. This classification issued by these institutions indicates the great challenges that the Lebanese face with regard to providing basic food for their families.

In the recent period, Lebanon witnessed a huge rise in the prices of food commodities, as inflation rates reached record numbers, and this rise caused an increase in pressure on families and the difficulty of accessing basic foodstuffs.

And the Consumer Protection Association compared the prices of food commodities between the first months of this year, with the month of last June, to show the “shocking” figure, which is that “prices increased by 110%, for example, the price of vegetables rose in June by 113%, and transportation by 132.5%, And household items are around 250%. Lebanon, in his opinion, is facing a major dilemma.

In turn, the head of the Consumer Protection Association, Zuhair Berro, said that “food security in the country has become one of the worst types,” revealing that “the association has received a large number of calls on the hotline, confirming that the percentage of spoiled food has increased significantly despite the validity of the expiration date. The Lebanese live An unprecedented double crisis of high prices and spoiled food.

In an interview with the “Lebanese Debate”, Berro confirmed, “The dollarization of the market by the Ministry of Economy did not solve the problem of high prices in the absence of state control, but rather deepened it, especially since some shops price the dollar at regarding 100 thousand pounds, while the price of The exchange in the Black Souf is regarding 89,000 pounds.”

And he stressed that “dollarization left merchants satisfied, not citizens, as merchants raised prices despite their dollarization, and in the absence of state oversight, merchants will control the citizen’s livelihood, which has become a hostage to the economic crisis.”

At the end of his speech, Berro touched on the issue of food supplements, pointing out that “there are types of labneh in which the worst types of oils are used, calling on the Ministries of Economy and Industry to prevent the manufacture of these materials in Lebanon.”
